Tim Elmore’s blog – Growing Leaders http://growingleaders.com/blog/

In the present society, there are many students who are in school studying their basic math, writing and science, and there are other students who are in training to learn how to be the someone they want to be. There is a training process from being a student in college or high school to being an adult in the workforce; an internship is a perfect stimulation and training for the job you'll have one day.

In Elmore's blog, he exemplifies the importance of internships that it is the stage of preparation before entering the work force. There are millions of college students who will be graduating over the next year and entering the workforce, and the importance of this process is crucial; however, the adults in their life have failed to train and prepare the students for this world. Majority of people think that they need special talents or skills in order to be successful in their internship, but more than anything they need to have teachability, initiative, responsibility, and energy. These four ingredients will lead you to a successful gateway to your internship. Leaders that you are interning with need students who are hungry to learn, ready to look for work that needs to be done, always completing the tasks they're given and being energetic. These qualities will offer you a healthy internship experience for both you and your mentor.

In my yearlong internship, I always have to be on my best behavior and status, because I am the student in the mentorship trying to learn from my mentor. Sometimes, the internship can get slowly paced, and repetitive, but I try to not let my guard down into being lazy and dull. When the mentor enters the room I always stand and try to help her in the best way that I can. I constantly look around the rooms and building looking for stuff that needs to be cleaned, organized and done. Even though no one recognizes my actions or my duties, I take every situation as a privilege than a given situation. Elmore's blog really applied to me when it stated that energy is needed for a healthy internship, because I lack energy sometimes; I get tired and weary, but then I realized the importance of an internship and the benefits I will obtain in the future. The internship experience is an experience that will lead you to your future desired destination.
