I am interested in becoming a doctor: I desire to pursue after the field of medicine which is where people get healed. I get to experience this amazing opportunity by mentoring doctors and medical professionals at their own workplaces. With the mentorship up ahead, I researched how to be successful in the mentorship. There are 2 ways in having a successful mentorship experience.

One of the first things to do when you start your mentorship is to start off the job with a nice first impression. When you meet someone for the first time, the first impression you get of that person sticks with you throughout the relationship before they get to truly know you. With a rocky first impression, biases will be made. So to have a tidy and smooth first impression, follow these tips:

1) Wear professional clothing for the beginning period of the mentorship. Even though there might be casual dress days, dress professionally at the beginning, so that you look professional and prepared to start your internship

2) Be early or on time for work. Punctuality is very important for work. Being early gives a sense of readiness and responsibility to your character.

3) Greet everyone with friendliness. Greet everyone with a warm smile when you come to work to show a sense of friendliness and positive attitude. This shows that you are ready and excited to work.

4) Be focused and always pay attention to directions. When interning and shadowing, you will receive many tasks that range from different levels of difficulty. So, for each task make sure you are always focused and aware of all the directions and assignments before starting anything.

Finally, the last thing to do at the beginning of you internship is getting to know your mentor and your mentor getting to know you. The mentor is the one who is going to be teaching and showing all the different ropes to the mentorship, so get to know them well. Tips for building a relationship with your mentor:

1) Ask the mentor questions about their job and topics that relate to them being involved into their jobs. Asking them questions about themselves and about their job will open a conversation to get to know them better. Also, this will open up a response for you to share about your passions for your career and about your achievements.

2) Keep the focus on you and not on your family or friends. When speaking to your mentor, share about yourself and your accomplishments instead of other people.
